The aim of the project is to maintain the haven approach channel and harbour at charted depth and allow the safe passage of deeper drafted vessels to the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich Navyard, Harwich International and Mistley.
According to the tender documentation, dredging campaigns will occur during December 2023, April 2024, early October 2024 and December 2024.
During each campaign, the future contractor will remove around 600,000m3 of silt from the harbour and 30,000m3 of sand from the outer channel.
