The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA and a consortium consisting of DEME Concessions N.V. and Qterminals W.L.L., have signed a preliminary agreement for a 30-year lease of land located in the outer port in Świnoujście, for the financing, building and operation of the Deep-water Container Terminal.
“This is an investment that will provide a development impulse not only for Świnoujście and Western Pomerania, but for the entire national economy,” said Krzysztof Urbaś , President of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA.
The construction of a deep-water container terminal in Świnoujście is one of the elements included in the “Seaport Development Program until 2023”.
The aim of the program is to strenghten the position of Polish ports in the Baltic Sea basin and establish key nodes of global supply chain for Central and Eastern Europe.
According to the Authority, the terminal will be capable of handling up to 2 million TEU per year, servicing simultaneously two ships, one with a length of 400 m and one of 200 m.
Also, the terminal will be built almost entirely on the pier located in the Pomeranian Bay and will be financed by an investor who was selected by means of a competitive tender procedure.
The terminal is set to be equipped with low-emission equipment in accordance with the highest ecological ‘green terminal’ standards.
If everything goes according to schedule, the new terminal should start operations in early 2028.
