The Macau International Airport is set to expand, with the land reclamation process starting in the second half of 2024.

This capital development program, involving the construction of a new landfill covering more than 129 hectares, will be completed in 2029.

According to the public consultation document on the “ Development Plan for the Appropriate Diversification of the Macau Special Administrative Region Economy 2024 – 2028 “, released on Friday, August 4, the airport expansion is identified as one of the priority projects to be developed in the area of integrated tourism and leisure.

It is also mentioned that the airport’s aircraft parking area will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the aim of starting operations as soon as possible.

After the expansion, the airport’s capacity will increase to 13 million passengers per year, thanks to the increase in the number of parking positions for long-haul aircraft and the extension of the taxiway system.

The State Council officially approved the Macao SAR government’s application to expand the Macau International Airport in late 2022.
