Port Macquarie Hastings Council today announced that they are halfway through the dredging operations at Lake Cathie, with close to 10,000m3 of sand now extracted from the lake.
“We’re undertaking this important work for two reasons; to improve the recreational amenity of the lake, and to protect Lighthouse Beach at Lake Cathie from the impacts of coastal erosion,” said the council.
The work will provide important short-to-medium term protection to the dunes, roads and houses in the area.
“Weather permitting, we’re hopeful the dredging work will be completed by the end of the month,” the officials stated.
