Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, met the Dutch delegates to Kenya on a trade mission on port development on Monday.

This development program is an effort by the Dutch Government to strengthen trade and investment relations between Kenya and the Netherlands, said the official.

“This mission comprises 17 Dutch companies with a strong interest in investing in maritime and port development, logistics, and the blue economy,” Murkomen said.

On the Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor Program, Murkomen noted that they intend to create a second strategic Corridor opening up the Northern parts of Kenya, connecting the country to the partner states of Ethiopia and South Sudan, and in the long term, creating a land bridge between the East and West coasts of Africa.

“LAPSSET Corridor Program is a significant enabler for enhanced regional trade and integration and unlocking regional potential through infrastructure development,” the official said.

According to Murkomen, rapid economic recovery in the country will depend on successful cooperation at the global level.
