Earlier this month, community leaders in Lake Isabella received news that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy issued the first permit in the restoration effort for Lake Isabella.

The permit approved by EGLE allows the dredging of up to 9,334 cubic yards of material from the lake bottom in Birch Bay.

The permit is valid for five years and is expected to be the first of several necessary in the lake restoration project.

Members of the community’s Joint Lake Restoration Committee have begun working on drafting an RFP to solicit bids to perform the work.

Dredge spoils from the project will need to be disposed of in an upload site but do not require a deed restriction or to be landfilled, Village of Lake Isabella said.
