The fire that broke out in the dredging pipe warehouse of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in the Borofkol area of Narayanganj yesterday was brought under control after four hours.
According to local media, all the dredging pipes stored in the warehouse were burned.
Fakhar Uddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj fire service, said that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Commenting the accident, BIWTA Chairman Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa said: “Considering a previous fire incident at this location, it appears to be an accident. However, an investigation will be conducted to determine if it was a subversive act.”
The extent of the damage cannot be assessed at this moment and the further details will be determined after a thorough investigation, concluded Mostafa.
