DEME Group has just released this amazing video named ‘From dredged material to thriving natural habitat’.
The fairway between the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście, Poland, recently underwent a modernisation that goes beyond just improved maritime access.
DEME and its joint venture partner Van Oord used the dredged material from the fairway modernisation to create two artificial islands, one of which is a thriving habitat for fauna and flora.
With an internal lake and over 9,000 growing trees and bushes, this island has become a sanctuary for wildlife, where rare bird species are being observed.
