Work to reroute the mouth of a river that feeds into Lake Superior began yesterday, WLUC reports.
Marquette engineer officials said that the city is moving a significant amount of sand at the mouth of the Dead River.
The river feeds into Lake Superior next to the Upper Harbor Ore Dock.
According to WLUC , the project will cost about $1 million but is covered by a federal grant.
The extra sand from this scheme is set to be used for other ongoing beach restoration projects on Lakeshore Boulevard.
This dredging program is estimated to be completed by the end of August.
