The Folly Beach (SC) Renourishment is making great progress and everything is still on track to be done by the start of peak hurricane season, the Army Corps said in a statement.

The contractor is dredging sand from the Folly River, sending it down long pipes along the beach where bulldozers come in and level the sand to form the new beach.

Once finished, the new renourished beach will be wider and taller, reducing the risk to life and infrastructure behind the dunes.

USACE Charleston District awarded the Folly Beach nourishment contract to Gator Dredging in late 2023. The contract includes placing around 1.3 million cubic yards of sand on the beach, equivalent to 130,000 dump trucks. The renourishment is funded entirely by the Corps of Engineers and will cost $18 million.
