J.E. McAmis of Chico, California, has won a project from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District to dredge a channel out of Dutch Harbor, AK, via Iliuliuk Bay.
The $9.3 million Unalaska (Dutch Harbor) Channel project will increase navigational safety and improve economic efficiencies into and out of Dutch Harbor via Iliuliuk Bay by dredging a 600-foot by 600-foot channel through the bar to a depth of -58 MLLW.
Currently, a bar shallower than the surrounding seabed located at the entrance to the bay limits access to Dutch Harbor.
McAmis will utilize a CAT 6030 Excavator dredge mounted on a 220′ x 60′ ABS derrick to complete the work.
Initial estimates of deepening the channel would involve dredging about 172,000 cubic yards of sediment. The construction is set to begin next spring, with an estimated completion date of September 30, 2025.
