Van Oord has successfully completed the Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point Beach Management Scheme on behalf of the Environment Agency.

This year, LNG trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Alexia played a key role in the project. She dredged around 400,000m3 of sand to renourish the beaches at Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe, Sutton on Sea, Boygrift, Huttoft, Wolla Bank, Chapel Six Marshes and Ingoldmells.

Van Oord’s involvement went beyond the project’s technical demands. The company has supported educational initiatives, training, and flood risk awareness through university visits, primary school workshops, and collaborations with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Additionally, Van Oord participated in the Sutton on Sea beach clean-up, helped install a defibrillator, and operated a Public Information Unit.

Beach nourishment in Lincolnshire

The Lincolnshire coastline has had a long history of flooding from the sea and many forms of defence are now in place including sand dunes, seawalls, rock/timber structures and beaches.

By restoring beach levels lost over the year, the Environment Agency protects its hard sea defences from the impact of waves and tides during storm events.
