Cork County Council, Ireland, later this summer will commence with the dredging of Ballycotton Harbor.

According to the Council, dredging of the seabed within Ballycotton Harbor will start on the 1st of September 2024 and will last until the 31st of October 2024.

In order to facilitate the dredging operation, Ballycotton pier and harbor will be closed from the 20th of August 2024 to the 31st of October 2024.

It is estimated that over 15,000m³ of dredged material (gravel, silt and sand) will be disposed of at sea. Approximately 1,500m³ of contaminated gravel, silt and sand will require disposal at a suitably licensed site.

The dredging works are to ensure the safe operation of the harbor and safe navigation and mooring of vessels within the harbor.

Harbors such as Ballycotton are the gateway to the sea and are fundamental infrastructure that supports public access, marine leisure, tourism, sea fishing, communications and the associated local community and economy.
