Commissioned by the U.S. Navy and managed by the Army Corps’ Regional Sediment Management Center of Expertise the team completed the Beneficial Use of Dredge Material Study in July 2024.
The team collected information related to marsh elevations, accretion rates, soil types, as well as plant and invertebrate species. This information in addition to an extensive historical and future analysis of marsh conditions will be used to strategically plan for beneficial use of dredge material opportunities around the Naval Facility.
USACE manages the dredging and placement of all material from the Kings Bay Channel and is working with the U.S. Navy and Taylor Engineering to identify short- and long-term options for beneficially using the dredge material for marsh restoration and sediment reduction measures instead of placing the material into upland disposal facilities or transporting to offshore disposal sites.
