Legacy Corporation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Rock Island District’s contractor, is about to mobilize equipment and begin dredging operation at areas within Lake Potter, including the entrance in the Mississippi River.
The dredging work, set to begin next Monday, is expected to be completed within 30 calendar days, weather permitting.
“ During this time, all access to Sunset Park and Sunset Marina will be limited to the south entrance via 31st Avenue. The north entrance from 18th Avenue, including Sunset Lane, Skafidas Parkway, and the Great River Trail bike path entrance, will be closed for the duration of the project ,” the City of Rock Island said.
The closures are necessary to allow the contractor to safely offload dredge material from the Mississippi River and transport it to the sediment basin on the east side of Lake Potter, according to the City.
The Rock Island Boat Harbor received $1M for harbor dredging through the FY24 Regular Appropriations Bill (Public Law 118-42) as Harbor Maintenance Trust Funds under the Operation and Maintenance Appropriation.
