The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District has awarded a $38.2 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock for the Absecon Island beach nourishment work.
According to the Army Corps, work will be performed in Atlantic County, New Jersey, with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2025.
The project involves the periodic replenishment of sand on the beaches to maintain flood protection and coastal resilience.
A similar contract to conduct periodic nourishment of the dune and berm system in Atlantic City was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company in July 2020.
Dredging and beachfill operations were conducted with GLDD’s pipeline cutterhead dredge TEXAS and hopper dredge LIBERTY ISLAND.
