The project is the largest capital improvement project in Hawaii harbors history and will deliver increased efficiency and operability to harbor users and the public.
Currently, the company is working on Phase 2, which includes the demolition, mass grading and waterfront improvement of several piers in Honolulu Harbor. This phase also involves the dredging and constructing of a new wharf.
The project will add 60+ acres to the port, adjacent to the existing cargo yard, and is a key component in addressing the growing economic demands and congestion in the harbor.
Recently, Kiewit team has been focusing on the foundation work, completing the vibratory stone column installation using the Kobelco 895 Crane and predrilling with LB28. The crew are also pouring 36-inch cast-in-drilled hole concrete piles and installing the segmental casing.
The work also includes dredging along the waterfront and in the harbor channel and widening the slips between Piers 40 and 43.
The Kapalama Container Terminal project is scheduled for completion in 2025.
