For this project, the company has deployed trailing suction hopper dredger Freeway and backhoe dredger Magnor – assisted by the pusher tugs Union Topaz and Union Onyx with Terraferre barges 501 and 502.
In recent weeks, some 400,000 cubic meters of material have been dredged for the reconstruction of the existing port.
Currently, the four vessels and two barges are dredging the entrance to the port to make it more accessible.
The collaboration between a trailing suction hopper dredger, a powerful backhoe dredger and the Terraferre barges with their pusher tugs is a tried and tested recipe.
Last year, this combination was already successfully deployed during several dredging projects in the United Kingdom and Sweden, among others.
In this way, Boskalis Terramare supports the economic development and secures access to one of the most important ports of Lithuania and the Baltic States.
