Curtin Maritime has completed one of its Baltimore District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintenance dredging phases on the Fort McHenry and Curtis Creek Channels.
According to Dredging Contractors of America, the works were performed in Upper Chesapeake Bay (Patapsco River) down stream from the Francis Scott Key Bridge area.
“ It’s great to get out there with Martin Curtin and the guys on the DB AVALON clam shell dredge ,” said Dredging Contractors of America’s William Doyle . “ Whether it’s 99 degrees or 9 degrees outside like today, these Jones Act dredgers keep America’s channels open for prosperity, economic, and national security .”
The crew of hybrid-powered dredge DB AVALON recently completed discharging dredged material into the Cox Creek DMCF and they are now cleaning their scows and preparing to head toward the Craighill Entrance and Angle. This excavated material will be beneficially reused to restore the ecosystem at Poplar Island.
The $33.4 million project to dredge Baltimore Harbor and the Channels in Chesapeake Bay is expected to be completed by the end of March 2025.
