DEME, in partnership with Terélian, has won a contract to create a new 1,800-meter-long access channel – protected by a breakwater – linking Port 2000 in Le Havre directly to the Seine estuary.
For this capital project, DEME will deploy several dredging vessels from its specialist fleet. The preparation activities are already in full swing and project completion is scheduled for early 2028.
“ As a key hub within the HAROPA PORT network, Port 2000 plays a vital role in global trade and logistics, and this project will further enhance its connectivity and capacity ,” said DEME . “This initiative also supports France’s ambitions for sustainable transport via inland waterways. It’s a proud return to Le Havre for DEME, where we were involved in the original construction of Port 2000.” The project is also called La Chatière – French for “cat flap” – named after the opening that will allow vessels to safely access the terminal in all weather.
By linking Port 2000 to the historic port and the Seine basin, this program is set to enhance the region’s competitiveness and contribute to France’s ambitions to promote inland waterways and sustainable waterborne transport, concluded DEME.
