The Sebastian Inlet District (FL) has released the latest update about the ongoing dredging and beach nourishment project.
According to the District, ATL Diversified (ATL) has completed about 20 percent of the Upland Truck Hauling and Beach Placement phase of the project (based on volume).
During this phase, ATL is placing approximately 80,000 cubic yards of material on part of a 2.5-mile stretch of beach south of Sebastian Inlet.
ATL has also begun mobilizing its dredge in anticipation of the dredging portion of the project, which will likely begin in about two weeks.
When the project is completed by April 30, ATL will have hydraulically dredged approximately 215,000 cubic yards of beach-compatible sand from a designated sand trap and adjacent navigation channel located within Sebastian Inlet.
Sand will be placed on the downdrift beaches. This is in addition to the 80,000 cubic yards of beach-compatible sand currently being trucked in from an upland sand source.
The project is necessary for the Sebastian Inlet District to meet its requirement to bypass sand that migrates into the inlet system to downdrift beaches per the Florida Beach & Shore Preservation Act.
