DEME Group has just released the latest update on its coastal protection and restoration activities in Grand Lahou, Ivory Coast.
These efforts are centered on dredging operations and shoreline protection works aimed at stabilizing the sand barrier between the Tagba Lagoon and the ocean.
“ By doing so, we’re providing a vital solution to safeguard Grand-Lahou’s vulnerable shoreline from coastal erosion, flooding, and increased rainfall ,” DEME said.
“As part of this project, we have also launched a Marine Turtle Protection Program in collaboration with the NGO SOS Dassioko.”
This program is dedicated to protecting marine turtle nests and adult turtles. Since early January 2025, DEME has made significant progress, with 95 hatchlings emerging and safely reaching the sea. These hatchlings were released 2 to 3 meters from the shoreline to ensure their safe journey.
According to DEME, this program is an integral part of their commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
“ By stabilizing the sand barrier between the Tagba Lagoon and the ocean, DEME is not only protecting the shoreline from erosion and flooding but also creating a safer habitat for the turtles ,” the company said.
