TasPorts has finished its major maintenance dredging campaign at the Port of Devonport ahead of schedule.
Throughout the campaign, TasPorts was able to optimise the dredging area and methodology, which resulted in the earlier completion and reduced the volume of material dredged from the operational port area.

Also, the campaign finished two weeks earlier than planned and relocated more than 250,000 cubic meters of material from the port to an approved offshore disposal site.
“ Environmental management was a core component of the project. Six water quality monitoring buoys collected continuous data during dredging, supported by baseline monitoring before the campaign and follow‑up monitoring after completion ,” TasPorts said.
“Throughout the campaign, there were no sustained dredging-related increases in turbidity – a key measure of water quality – with water conditions remaining consistent with those observed outside dredging periods.”
Any short-term changes were investigated and attributed to weather conditions or routine sensor maintenance, TasPorts concluded.
